Attitude Of Gratitude

You can only control so much. I get it. We look at the scaling wall of things that we can’t put a dent into. One thing we can is our attitude.

The definition of attitude you will find in the dictionary is “a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior.”

Attitude - a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior.

Attitude is what the definition says we settle for. I see that as a problem. Why is it we settle (lower) our attitudes rather than raise them? Our attitude is developed over our years of living and experiences we have uniquely gone through. We form our attitude towards life, people, and situations through a collective process that time develops. The Navy Seals have a motto that says that we don’t rise to the occasion, but actually fall to the level of our training. Our personal attitude is trained and while we want to have the attitude of breaking down walls and climbing mountains it will always sink to the level we have developed out attitudes to be.

Gratitude is a must. Gratitude is missing like a hole in the wall.

Our level of entitlement and attitude of me first will continue to push our society down. With an attitude of gratitude we look at each day as a unique opportunity separate from the past and future to do something great! Ask yourself when is the last time you woke up and popped out of bed and start your morning routine and took a minute to be grateful for the fact you are alive and breathing? Seriously, if your attitude is suffering make it a point to stop what you are doing right now and think that fact over. The fact that you are alive is taken for granted. Yes we have our aches, pains, and struggles. Gratitude puts this in perspective,

…when is the last time you woke up and popped out of bed and start your morning routine and took a minute to be grateful for the fact you are alive and breathing?

If you can’t have an attitude of gratitude think of the person who just lost a loved one to cancer, the family in Africa who’s food supply has been cutoff, the person in your neighborhood who lives in their car, the new parents who were unable to have kids and granted a child through adoption.

Gratitude is sincere. People want to be around others whose attitude reflects one enriched with the grateful spirit. Some beneficial outcomes to being more about gratitude should be mentioned as well.

  • Mental Health - Our mental health is incredibly important. With gratitude in our life we reduce (not eliminate) stress that builds up to cause anxiety. We won’t bury ourselves in depression that is racing across our human race right now. Gratitude will lead to making other decisions that lead to great mental health as well since we will be more open to choosing the positive over the bad habits.

  • Creativity - The gratitude attitude will free our mind to produce more creative outcomes in our life. We stifle our creativity when our attitude is locked in on bad things. Creativity in itself will come from great expression of gratitude. Adobe Data did a study that said 75% of people actually believe they are not living up to their creative potential. Being grateful lifts us to that potential.

  • Relationships - Our attitude puts us with in the relationships we have. We will always hang out with those somewhat similar to us. Those with negative attitudes always seem to be around each other to feed into that attitude even more. This in turn makes our relationships suffer immensely. This could be personal, friend, family, work, team, and any other type of relationship. Be grateful and you connectedness with relationships will grow and become stronger like a chain.

Showcase your gratitude TODAY. Do not wait. Try some of the following when expressing gratitude.

  • Gratitude Journal - Write one thing you are grateful for everyday in a journal. When you are down and out (which will happen) you can open it up and be reminded of how amazing things are.

  • Partner Up - Get around those who have an attitude of gratitude and can help you express yourself. Talking things out is good and having a few pairs of ears around is always good.

  • Rejuvenate - Give your body and more importantly mind a chance to be rejuvenated Practice meditation, or. deep breathing to hit the reset button. Take up a hobby or something that can take your mind away from the daily turmoil.

Those are all great strategies for the attitude of gratitude. BUT there is one that is the best and to make it even better is also the easiest!

To have gratitude you must showcase it! Go up to others and tell them that you are thankful for what they do. Write a post or a letter. Smile so that your body language showcases your internal attitude of gratitude. If we showcase it (something we can control) then we will continually be developing it in our lives.

Start today. Right now. Have an attitude of gratitude.
